Product Sourcing China and Dubai, Delivered to Your Door in Zimbabwe

One instruction. We source, inspect, pack, clear and deliver. You pay one invoice.

The Three Questions Everyone Asks First

How does it work?
You tell us what you want to buy and how many. We find verified suppliers in China or Dubai, get you pricing, arrange a quality inspection before payment, consolidate the goods with other orders, clear them at the border, and deliver to your address in Zimbabwe. One instruction, one invoice.
How much does sourcing cost?
Our sourcing fee is 5 percent of the supplier invoice value, minimum USD 150 per order. That covers supplier identification, price negotiation, and quality inspection coordination. Freight, clearing and duty are quoted separately.
How long does it take?
Air freight from China: 7 to 10 days door to door. Sea freight from China: 30 to 35 days. From Dubai: 5 to 7 days by air, 21 to 28 days by sea. Customs clearing adds 24 to 72 hours depending on cargo.

Common products we source: electronics, cellphone accessories, clothing, kitchenware, hardware, machinery spares, LED lighting, solar equipment, toys, stationery, cosmetics, textiles, industrial components.

What Product Sourcing Means at George Steward

Most importers in Zimbabwe face the same problem. They find a product on Alibaba or they see something in Dubai. They want to import it. But they do not know the supplier. They cannot verify if the price is fair. They cannot inspect the goods before paying. And they do not want to pay in full and hope for the best.

George Steward removes that risk. We are on the ground in the supplier markets. We know which factories are real and which are trading companies pretending to be factories. We know the fair price for most products. And we inspect your order before you pay the balance.

Our sourcing service covers:

  • Supplier identification and verification in China and Dubai
  • Price negotiation on your behalf
  • Sample coordination if you want to test before bulk ordering
  • Quality inspection before the goods leave the factory
  • Consolidation of multiple orders into one shipment
  • Freight booking by air or sea
  • Customs clearing at Beitbridge or Harare Airport
  • Delivery to your door anywhere in Zimbabwe

You give us one instruction. We give you one invoice with everything included.

Why You Need a Sourcing Agent in China

If you have never imported from China, the process looks simple from the outside. You find a product, you pay, it arrives. That is not how it works.

Here is what actually happens without an agent:

You find a supplier on Alibaba. Their price looks good. You send a deposit. The goods arrive three months later and half of them are wrong. Or the quality is lower than the sample. Or the supplier has disappeared and you have no way to recover the money.

The problem is not that Chinese suppliers are dishonest. The problem is that there are a million of them and you have no way to tell the good ones from the bad ones. Alibaba verification badges help, but they are not enough.

Here is what changes with a sourcing agent:

We visit the factory or the trading company. We check they exist. We check they have the capacity to fill your order. We negotiate the price directly, which typically saves 5 to 15 percent off the listed price. We inspect the goods before the balance is paid. If they fail inspection, we do not ship them.

That is the value of an agent. You pay a small fee. You avoid the expensive mistakes.

The Markets We Cover

China and Dubai are the two dominant sourcing origins for Zimbabwean importers. Each has a different specialisation. We source from all of the major markets below.

Guangzhou

Guangzhou is the heart of China's export trade. The Canton Fair runs here twice a year. Most electronics, apparel and general merchandise come through Guangzhou. We have relationships with factories and trading companies throughout the city.

Common products: phones, phone accessories, computers, appliances, clothing, shoes, bags, hardware.

Shenzhen

Shenzhen is China's tech hub. If you are importing electronic components, circuit boards, LED lighting or tech accessories, this is the market. Almost every electronics factory in China has a base in Shenzhen.

Common products: circuit boards, LED lights, phone repair parts, cables, chargers, power banks, electronic toys.

Yiwu

Yiwu is the world's largest wholesale market for small consumer goods. Over 75,000 booths under one roof. This is where you source stationery, toys, kitchenware, cosmetics, artificial jewellery, party supplies and general merchandise.

Common products: stationery, toys, kitchenware, cosmetics, jewellery, household items, packaging materials.

Shanghai

Shanghai is China's industrial and financial hub. For industrial machinery, industrial chemicals, automotive parts and heavy equipment, Shanghai is the sourcing point. It has the largest port in the world by volume.

Common products: industrial machinery, chemicals, auto parts, solar equipment, industrial components.

Ningbo

Ningbo is a major port city in Zhejiang province. It sits alongside Yiwu as a sourcing hub for general merchandise, tools, hardware and consumer goods. Many suppliers who are not based in Guangzhou operate from Ningbo and ship from its deep water port.

Common products: tools, hardware, auto parts, home goods, kitchen appliances, plastic products.

Foshan

Foshan is the furniture and ceramics capital of China. If you are importing furniture, tiles, sanitaryware, or building materials, this is the sourcing point. The factories here supply much of the world's furniture.

Common products: furniture, tiles, sanitaryware, building materials, home decor.

Dongguan

Dongguan is a manufacturing hub in Guangdong province, adjacent to Shenzhen. It specialises in electronics, plastics, moulds, packaging and assembly work. Factories here are often more competitive than Shenzhen for medium scale manufacturing.

Common products: plastic products, packaging, electronics assembly, phone cases, toys.

Dubai

Dubai is the re export hub for Africa. Jebel Ali Port handles cargo from India, Pakistan, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Dubai is the fastest source for small orders because minimum order quantities are lower than China and mixed cargo from multiple suppliers is easier to consolidate.

Common products: gold, electronics, textiles, cosmetics, perfumes, fashion accessories, food products, household goods.

Sharjah

Sharjah is Dubai's industrial neighbour. Warehouse rents are lower, industrial land is cheaper, and many small manufacturers and packers operate here. For orders that require small manufacturing runs, labelling, or packaging work, Sharjah is often the practical choice.

Common products: hardware, plastic goods, packaging, construction materials, auto parts.

Quality Inspection Before You Pay

The biggest risk in importing from China is that the goods do not match what you expected. The sample was good. The bulk order was not. The fabric is thinner. The plastic is brittle. The electronics fail within a month.

This is where a sourcing agent earns their fee.

Before your goods leave the factory, we arrange an inspection. A qualified inspector visits the factory, opens the cartons, and checks the goods against your specification. The inspector takes photos. They check quantities, sizes, colours, materials and function.

If the goods pass, we authorise the final payment and the goods ship.

If the goods fail, they do not ship. You do not pay the balance. The supplier corrects the problem or replaces the order. You never see defective goods, because they never leave China.

What we inspect:

  • Quantity against the packing list
  • Size, colour and finish against the sample or specification
  • Materials and construction quality
  • Function testing where relevant
  • Carton labelling and markings
  • Photographic evidence of the full inspection

The inspection report goes to you by email. You see exactly what we see. Then you decide.

Sample Coordination, Test Before You Commit

If you are importing a product for the first time, do not order a full container. Order one unit. Test it. Show it to your customers. If it sells, order more.

We coordinate samples from any supplier we source from. The sample cost is usually small. Air freight for a single sample is 5 to 10 days from China. You receive the sample at your address in Zimbabwe before you commit to a bulk order.

For some products, the supplier will provide the sample free and you only pay the courier. For others, the sample cost is refunded against the bulk order. We advise on which suppliers offer this and negotiate on your behalf.

Sample first importing is the single biggest protection against expensive mistakes. Most first time importers skip this step. Most of them regret it.

Consolidation, Buy from Multiple Suppliers, Ship Once

Most Chinese suppliers have minimum order quantities. A factory might require 500 units of a product. You might only need 100. If you order from five suppliers, you get five shipments, five freight bills, and five sets of customs documents.

We solve this with consolidation. Your orders from multiple suppliers are delivered to our consolidation warehouse in Guangzhou or Yiwu. We pack them into one shipment. You pay one freight cost, one clearing fee, one set of documents.

What consolidation saves:

  • Freight cost: one shipment instead of five
  • Clearing fees: one Bill of Entry instead of five
  • Duty: declared on the combined total, not per supplier
  • Documentation: one set, not five
  • Time: one arrival, not five separate arrivals

Consolidation is the standard way professional importers work. It is the reason a small business in Harare can compete with a larger competitor. Same suppliers, same freight, same landed cost per unit.

Products We Do Not Source

George Steward sources almost any legitimate product from China and Dubai into Zimbabwe. But there are categories we will not handle. These are products that are illegal, dangerous, or that we cannot import without breaking the law.

  • Counterfeit branded goods. Any product that copies a registered trademark without authorisation. These are seized at the border and you face prosecution.
  • Weapons and ammunition. No firearms, no replica weapons, no blades that fall under Zimbabwe's dangerous weapons legislation.
  • Illegal drugs and narcotics. Nothing on the prohibited substances list.
  • Pornographic material. Banned under Zimbabwe's Censorship and Entertainment Control Act.
  • Live animals. Requires specific permits from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. We do not handle live cargo.
  • Plants and soil. Requires phytosanitary certificates and may introduce diseases. Not handled by us.
  • Human remains. Handled by specialist funeral services, not by general forwarders.
  • Items made from endangered species. Ivory, rhino horn, certain leathers, and any product on the CITES list.
  • Hazardous waste. Not accepted in Zimbabwe.
  • Items under international sanctions. If your country of origin is under sanctions and the goods fall under restrictions, we do not handle them.

If you are unsure whether your product is allowed, ask us before you place the order. A two minute question can save you a confiscated shipment and a fine.

What Happens When Something Goes Wrong

Sourcing from China and Dubai goes wrong in specific ways. The supplier disappears. The goods arrive late. The quality is different from the sample. The customs classification is wrong and ZIMRA holds the shipment. Every importer has heard these stories.

Here is how we handle them.

If the supplier goes quiet

This is the biggest fear, and it is why we never recommend paying 100 percent upfront. Standard terms are 30 percent deposit, 70 percent on inspection. If a supplier insists on 100 percent upfront, we advise against using them and help you find an alternative. If a supplier we have recommended goes quiet after deposit, we pursue them directly. We know where their factory is. We know the trading company contacts. We do not let a deposit go missing.

If the goods fail inspection

The goods do not ship. The supplier corrects the problem or refunds the deposit. You never receive defective goods because they never leave China.

If the shipment is delayed

Chinese factories close for the Lunar New Year, usually for two to three weeks in late January or February. Production calendars also shift around the Canton Fair and other national holidays. We build realistic lead times into every quote and warn you about Chinese New Year when it affects your order. When a delay is coming, we tell you before you ask.

If ZIMRA queries the classification

We answer it at the assessment desk. We are licensed agents with direct access to assessors. Most queries are resolved the same day.

If the goods arrive with damage

We inspect on arrival, take photos, and start the claim process with the carrier. If you have transit insurance arranged through us, we handle the entire claim with the insurer.

What You Do, Step by Step

01

Send us your supplier invoice

Or tell us what you want to source and we find the supplier for you. Either way, one email or WhatsApp message with the product details, quantity, and delivery address in Zimbabwe. A photo or link to the product helps.

02

We find suppliers and quote

Within 3 to 5 business days we come back with 2 to 3 verified suppliers, their pricing, their minimum order quantity, and the estimated landed cost to Zimbabwe. Fixed.

03

You approve and pay the deposit

You approve the quote. We place the order with the supplier on your behalf. You pay the supplier deposit through us, and we confirm the factory has accepted it.

04

We inspect before final payment

Once the goods are ready, we arrange the inspection. If the goods pass, we authorise the final payment. If they fail, we stop the shipment and coordinate corrections.

05

We consolidate and ship

If you have ordered from multiple suppliers, we consolidate at our Guangzhou or Yiwu warehouse. Then we book the freight and manage the arrival at Durban, Beira or Harare Airport.

06

We clear and deliver

We handle ZIMRA clearance at Beitbridge or Harare Airport. Duty is paid on your behalf. Delivery to your door anywhere in Zimbabwe.

Protect Your Order

Sourced goods travel thousands of kilometres before they reach your door. Marine and transit cover protects against loss, damage and theft. Ask for your insurance quote when you place your sourcing order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to source products from China?
Our sourcing fee is 5 percent of the supplier invoice value, minimum USD 150 per order. That covers supplier identification, price negotiation, and quality inspection coordination. Freight, clearing and duty are quoted separately.
Can you source from Alibaba for me?
Yes. Alibaba is the starting point for most sourcing. We verify the supplier behind the Alibaba listing, negotiate directly, and manage the transaction end to end. We also source from suppliers who do not list on Alibaba but are known to us through our market presence.
What is the minimum order?
There is no minimum on our side. Most suppliers require a minimum order quantity, which varies by product. We advise on the minimum for your specific product at the quoting stage.
How long does sourcing take from start to delivery?
Sample coordination: 7 to 14 days. Bulk production: 15 to 30 days. Sea freight: 30 to 35 days door to door. Air freight: 7 to 10 days door to door. Total from order to delivery: 6 to 10 weeks for sea, 3 to 5 weeks for air.
Can you inspect the goods before they ship?
Yes. Quality inspection is included in our sourcing fee. We arrange a qualified inspector to visit the factory, check the goods against your specification, and send you a photographic report before final payment is authorised.
Do you source from Dubai as well as China?
Yes. Dubai is often faster for small orders and mixed cargo from multiple suppliers. Minimum order quantities are lower and consolidation is easier. Air freight from Dubai is 5 to 7 days, sea freight 21 to 28 days.
Can I order from multiple suppliers and consolidate?
Yes. That is one of the main benefits of using us. Your orders from different suppliers are delivered to our warehouse in China, packed into one shipment, and cleared through customs on one Bill of Entry. You save on freight, clearing and documentation.
What if the goods do not match the sample?
They do not ship. We stop the shipment, coordinate correction or replacement with the supplier, and only authorise final payment once the goods pass inspection. You never receive defective goods because they never leave China.
What products do you not source?
We do not source counterfeits, weapons, illegal drugs, pornographic material, live animals, hazardous waste, items made from endangered species, or anything prohibited under Zimbabwe law. If you are unsure about your product, ask us before placing an order.
Does Chinese New Year affect my order?
Yes. Chinese factories close for two to three weeks around Lunar New Year, usually late January or February. Production delays of 2 to 4 weeks are normal if your order falls in that window. We warn you at the quoting stage and build the shutdown into your timeline.
