Beitbridge Clearing Agent, Commercial Cargo Cleared in 48 Hours

Representation on the ground at Beitbridge. We meet your driver, we clear your cargo, we get it moving.

The Three Questions Everyone Asks First

How much?
Clearing fee is 2 percent of the total value of your goods, minimum USD 100, maximum USD 3,000. Plus USD 30 documentation and USD 30 communication. If your truck is already at the border and needs urgent handling, call us first.
How long?
Commercial trucks: 24 to 48 hours from arrival to release. Vehicles: 48 to 72 hours. Transit cargo: 12 to 24 hours. These are standard times with documents in order.
What do I do?
Send us the truck details, commercial invoice and packing list before the driver arrives at the border. We meet the driver, handle ZIMRA, and clear the truck. If your truck is already there, call us now.

Beitbridge is Zimbabwe's busiest border post. Most delays come from documents that do not match, missing permits, or the wrong classification on the invoice. We check all three before your truck arrives.

What We Do at Beitbridge

Beitbridge is where Zimbabwe's trade enters the country. It handles more traffic than any other border post. It is also where most clearing problems happen.

Every commercial truck arrives with three things: paperwork, cargo, and a driver who has been on the road for hours. If the paperwork is wrong, the truck sits. If the classification is wrong, ZIMRA queries it. If the driver has no one to meet him, he waits.

George Steward has resident representation at Beitbridge. Someone from our team meets your driver on arrival, takes the documents, walks them through ZIMRA, and keeps you updated until release. Your driver does not need to know the process. That is our job.

We handle:

  • Commercial imports of all sizes, from single pallets to full 30 tonne truckloads
  • Transit cargo moving through Zimbabwe to Zambia, DRC and Malawi
  • Vehicle imports from South Africa
  • Mining equipment, agricultural inputs, machinery and everyday goods
  • Bonded warehouse entry for duty deferral

If your cargo is clearing at Beitbridge, we do not clear it from Harare by phone. We have people on the ground.

Why Beitbridge Is Not Like Other Borders

Beitbridge is the busiest, and the most congested, border post in Zimbabwe. Understanding why saves you money and time.

Peak congestion runs Thursday to Sunday

Trucks arriving Thursday evening often wait until Saturday morning for assessment. We pre lodge your entry before your truck departs Johannesburg or Durban, so it enters the queue already assessed.

Both the border and ZIMRA run 24 hours

Trucks that arrive at midnight are processed the next shift. What still causes delays is not the time of arrival. It is documents that do not match the cargo. We check your documents before your truck reaches the border so that when it arrives, it enters a queue that is already moving.

Transit cargo needs different handling

Cargo destined for Zambia or DRC via Beitbridge requires a transit declaration, a bond, and a specific release sequence. Get the sequence wrong and the truck is held. We handle transit documentation daily.

Vehicle imports clear on a separate queue

A car or truck coming in for Zimbabwe registration does not move through the commercial cargo lane. It has its own inspection bay, its own assessment team, and its own documentation requirements. We clear vehicles daily and know the process.

The road to Harare adds 580km

Beitbridge to Harare is 580km. That is a full day's drive. When we know your cargo is released at 4pm, we arrange the Harare leg so the driver does not have to sleep in his cab at the border.

Importing from South Africa Through Beitbridge

South Africa is Zimbabwe's largest trading partner, and Beitbridge is the entry point for almost every South African import. Most trucks that cross are carrying goods from Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town.

Here is what changes for South African cargo.

Reduced duty under the SADC agreement. South Africa is part of the SADC regional trade agreement. Goods originating in South Africa attract reduced import duty when accompanied by a valid Certificate of Origin. On vehicles, duty halves from 40 to 20 percent. On most other categories, you save 30 to 50 percent.

The Certificate of Origin must be correct. This is the single most common reason for SADC rates being rejected at Beitbridge. The certificate must be issued by an authorised body in South Africa, must match the invoice exactly, and must be presented at the time of assessment. If it is wrong, ZIMRA applies full duty.

We check every South African Certificate of Origin before your truck leaves the supplier. If something is missing, we tell you before the truck reaches the border.

Crossing time from Johannesburg is 6 to 8 hours. Johannesburg to Beitbridge is roughly 520km. On a good run that is 6 to 8 hours. Truck stops along the N1 are well established. Most drivers arrive in the evening or early morning.

We know the South African supplier network. Most Zimbabwean importers buy from the same pool of South African wholesalers, dealers and manufacturers. We have cleared from most of them before. That means fewer questions on the invoice, fewer queries from ZIMRA, and a faster release.

Border Operating Hours

The border does not close. But assessment capacity at night can be limited. Pre lodgement removes most of that risk.

What Happens When Something Goes Wrong at Beitbridge

Beitbridge is where cargo problems become obvious. Documents that looked fine on paper do not match what is on the truck. A permit is missing. The invoice value does not match the consignment. Every importer and every agent faces these moments.

Here is how we handle them.

If ZIMRA raises a query on the classification

We answer it at the assessment desk. We are ZIMRA licensed clearing agents with direct access to assessors. Most queries are resolved the same day. You do not get a call at 10pm asking how your goods should be classified.

If the Certificate of Origin is missing or wrong

We contact your South African supplier or dealer immediately. If the certificate can be corrected or reissued, we arrange it. If not, we advise on the correct duty rate and give you the option to proceed at full duty or delay the consignment.

If the truck arrives with documents that do not match the cargo

This is the most common delay at Beitbridge. We identify the problem at the assessment desk and give you the choice: delay for the correction, or proceed as declared. Either way, you decide, not the driver.

If the truck is held for inspection

Physical inspections at Beitbridge happen more often than at other borders because of the volume. We attend the inspection, take photos, and provide the report to you. Most inspections take 2 to 4 hours.

If your driver is stuck or in distress

Our team is on the ground at Beitbridge. We can assist with driver needs, fuel, accommodation, and communication with the South African side if necessary.

If your cargo needs to move before duty is paid

We can arrange bonded warehouse entry at Harare, so your cargo moves out of the border under bond and duty is paid when you are ready to sell.

What You Do, Step by Step

01

Send us your supplier invoice

One email or WhatsApp message with the truck details, commercial invoice and packing list before the driver arrives at the border. That is enough to start.

02

Get a quote within 4 hours

We respond with the clearing fee, duty estimate, and total landed cost. Fixed. No hidden add ons later. If your truck is already at the border, we can start immediately.

03

Approve and pay the deposit

You approve the quote and pay the deposit. We pre lodge the entry in ASYCUDA World before your truck arrives.

04

We meet your driver at Beitbridge

Our team meets your driver on arrival, takes the documents, and walks them through ZIMRA. You receive an update by email or phone call at each stage.

05

Your cargo is released

Once ZIMRA releases the truck, we coordinate the onward move to Harare, Bulawayo, or your delivery address. For transit cargo, we ensure the bond is correctly closed and the truck exits Zimbabwe on time.

Protect Your Consignment

Cargo moving through Beitbridge faces theft, accident and weather risk on the N1 corridor. George Steward arranges transit insurance alongside your clearing. Ask for your insurance quote when you request your clearing quote.
